Many people around the globe feel a quickening: a call to a greater level of awareness, consciousness, and Wisdom.

Whether pushed by pain or pulled by vision — or a combination of the two — we're feeling nudged from our slumber and compelled to reconnect in a new and deepened way to our Wisdom and faith traditions and ancestors. And we're feeling called, with some sense of urgency, towards an engaged spirituality, a lived faith, an active mysticism or cosmology.

In other words, we're being called to connect, and then fully express that connection in the world — not just as best serves our short-term "wants" as individuals or particular groups, but that emphasizes wholeness, wellness, kinship, and interconnectedness with all that lives. A more generous way of Being, as opposed to a selfish "way of doing."

The journey to full remembering and reconnection to Spirit includes moments of vastness, joy, love, inspiration and awe; as well as moments of seeming lostness, anger, numbness, sadness, or even utter despair. It includes times of bright clarity and connection, as well as through the valley of the shadow, via negativa, or "dark night of the soul."

In Western culture, particularly, there can be a disconnection from Wisdom, from the naturalness of this journey, and even from Spirit. Whether due to hyperactive technologies, busy schedules, the predominance of materialism and fear, or religious practices that have erred towards those directions rather than towards deepened connection to Spirit, it can be more traumatic for Westerners who find themselves stirred towards awakening or in the midst of a "dark night." And yet as the poet Theodore Roethke wrote, "In a dark time, the eye begins to see."

While everyone's journey to remembering, to deepened connection with God, Universe, Spirit and Wisdom is unique, there are also some similarities along the path. There are kindred spirits and shared resources; there are avenues to reconnect with the deep Wisdom of our ancestors; and there is an abundance of "new wisdom" that joins the ancient.

Regardless of where or how you're on the journey to reconnect with Spirit, to reawaken to the vastness and grandness of the cosmos and its amazing Divine Intelligence that is in, around, behind and before all things, it's helpful — very helpful — to have resources, information, and sources of empathy and support.

That's the purpose of this Ivy Sea Portal. If you've found your way here, you may be in the midst of your own journey to awakening. We welcome you. May you find your way to greater wisdom and illumination through some of the resources listed here.
