October 30, 2008 - Vol. 7, No. 16:
Conscious Communication and Change
Greetings!
Do any of these sound familiar to you? These are some of the things I'm hearing a lot from people these days:
"I feel anxious over change that seems beyond my control." "Things feel really stuck; the change that I want doesn't seem to be going anywhere." "People always seem to be misunderstanding what I say (or I'm always misunderstanding what others say!)". Or, "I see the changes that I want to experience, but don't know how to 'get there' from here."
Both individuals and organizations or groups experience each of these, as well as other manifestations related to communication, and a desired or unanticipated change and transformation. I've experienced them myself over the years, both as a business owner and an individual.
What do all of them have in common? The power of our communication affects change, and how we experience change -- and everything else!
That's really what 'conscious communication' is about -- being very intentional and aware of the power of the words we're using, and how we're communicating both within ourselves and with others, whether interpersonally, organizationally, or in conscious-marketing and outreach. All are shaped by underlying stories, including some that we may not be conscious of!
We know that 'words are a form of action, capable of influencing change,' as said by the writer Ingrid Bengis. Of course, wise men and women, shaman, and others throughout the ages have known about the power of our words, seeing words as catalysts -- which is why they were always very careful with the words they chose. Now the more pioneering scientists are beginning to give us additional ways of understanding why our thoughts, intentions, and expressed words are so powerful.
Conscious communication takes a close look at underlying thought, intention, belief, vision, and the words chosen to 'animate' the desirable story (and 'de-animate' the stories that are no longer appropriate for us or our group). The words matter, because the stories influence our perceptions and our experience of reality.
Conscious communication helps us to focus more intentionally and make choices that animate the ways of seeing and experiencing that we desire to have in our reality, and it helps us to make shifts and navigate change and transformation more gracefully.
If you're feeling stuck, your words and stories, or conscious communication, can help influence a new momentum; if you're anxious about change, they can help you find a new solidity and a focus to more gracefully navigate the changes. It really does all start within, and ripple outward into our experience.
There are a variety of practices and approaches that can be used individually or organizationally to release 'unhelpful' stories and patterns, and choose and enliven more vibrant, desirable ones.
To schedule a mentor-coaching session or series, or a consultation, to help you weave new conscious-communication and change practices into your current routine -- and enliven new potentials in your experience -- send us an email. We'd be delighted to speak with you!
Wishing You Joyful Blessings and Good Juju,
