| What about the ethics of practices such as remote viewing?
Remote Viewing is making its way into the mainstream, via mass-marketed workshops and audio/visual training programs. Given this, it's natural, when thinking of any of these capabilities that some people once thought of as "science fiction", to ask about the ethics involved in something like 'remote viewing'. After all, governments have applied remote viewing for the purposes of spying, and the origins of the process are decidely non-spiritual. Asking about the ethical use of any practice or profession is a very legitimate question, and expecting integrity and high ethical standards is more than reasonable.
Ethical issues and questions related to remote viewing are no different than those pertaining to any other field, whether it be law, business consulting, medicine, accounting, or auto repair. In any field, it's important to operate with integrity; and in any field, one may find select individuals who do not behave ethically, just as there are others who approach their profession with the utmost integrity and skillfulness.
Here's what several different high-integrity practitioners of energy healing, intuitive and psychic consultation, and/or remote viewing have to say about the ethical issues related to remote viewing and other intuitive, psychic, and energy healing/reading methods:
Christopher Stewart, Iona Consulting (see bio above) - Remote Viewing, Intuition, Energy Healing
It is very legitimate to ask about the ethics of remote viewing. Remote viewing is a technology that has existed for millennia. Native shamanic cultures have used the ability to "see" for hunting, finding living spaces, protection and many other needs of their cultures.
As with any activity it is the ethical standards of the practitioner that matters the most. All of the best remote viewers that I have studied with and known have a deep ethical and spiritual core value that they assign to this work.Remote viewing has been used in the civilian world to heal traumas, find missing persons, locate ideal locations for business, understand markets and technologies. All of these are uses of this ability with high integrity. [Visit Christopher's web site.]
To quote Hesychius of Jerusalem:
"Silence of the heart, practiced with wisdom, will see a lofty depth;
And the ear of the silent mind will hear untold wonders."
Anne Dumauthioz, Founder, Be An Original - Interactive Guided Imagery, Reiki, Intuition, NLP
The ethics of intuitive practices are linked in my mind to healing practices (e.g. intuitive imagery and Reiki) because that's what I am familiar with.I only use these modalities for mutually beneficial healing purposes with willing participants, e.g. to create greater understanding, connectedness among people, to deepen sensitivity, personal introspection, and to promote growth.
That said, it's been my own experience that we all have an unconscious built-in protective mechanism that assures our privacy, and I don't believe there is ever a risk of picking up information that is not meant to be revealed. [Visit Anne's Be An Original web site.]
Johanna Carroll, Psychic, Medium, Teacher
As with any intuitive or energy healing/reading effort, the ethics or intention of a remote viewer determines the quality or result. I feel that remote viewing is somewhat like being a psychic spy. However, when one has the permission of the one being viewed, then the law of interference has been honored, i.e. I am never allowed to give or receive information unless I am asked for it. If we interfere, we involve ourselves in the karma of the other person, event, or situation, and complicate our own path.
Remote Viewing is considered more technical in nature than pure spiritual energy, and so can be limited to the material realm. In other words, Remote Viewing is excellent for detailing pictures of things currently present, or locked in history, and so can tell us a great story of who we are now.
Developed intuition and spirituality that is highly evolved has no such limitations. As with any spiritual practice, the integrity, experience, and intention of the giver of the information will affect the information that is available. Spirit does not allow anything through the magnetic field of protection unless we 'call it in' on some level for experience. This is why prayer is so important. [Visit Johanna's web site.]
Sounds True Interviews David Morehouse, Remote Viewing Technologies
Sounds True, the instructional audio/video-training company based in Boulder, Colorado, features the Remote Viewing training program by David Morehouse. In an interview Sounds True conducted with Morehouse, they ask about the ethical, spiritual, and practical issues related to Remote Viewing. [Read the Sounds True - David Morehouse interview.]
Sounds True is a company associated with ethical, spiritual products, so their endorsement in carrying Mr. Morehouse's training program offers some credibility. However, in the spirit of forthrightness, there are a variety of opinions about the origins and ethical use of remote viewing, as well as Mr. Morehouse himself. This information can be found via a simple web search, and at Remote Viewer.org.
Vernon Howard, as cited in Tom Russell's SuperWisdom Ezine
"As the mighty Amazon River empties into the Atlantic Ocean, it creates a vast area of fresh water. The river's constant power keeps the ocean's salt water more than a hundred miles away from the coast. Psychic power released through self-insight has the same purifying effect. A man living within the flow of his own fresh nature cannot be affected by impure events around him." ~ Vernon Howard [Visit the SuperWisdom web site.]
