"Organizational vision and values are a focus only when times are flush and things are easy," one corporate executive lamented. "But when things get tough financially, vision and values are the first things to go by the wayside." He was speaking of how the company's 'triple bottom line' and emphasis on valuing employees, customers, and community members became a bottom priority once 'boom' had turned to 'bust.'
Ultimately, organizations and corporations are mobilized by individuals. Individuals meet and define the vision and values; individuals determine organizational priorities; individuals decide how to approach their work each day, and when to speak and act in accordance, or out of alignment with, the values they espouse.
